The 50×50mm square badge
Most button badges are round because most badge presses are. A square badge reads as deliberate for that reason — it looks designed rather than defaulted to, and it stands out on a table of round ones.
It also suits certain artwork far better. Square logos, photographs, QR codes, album covers, anything built on a grid: all of these lose their corners on a round badge and sit correctly on a square one.

Square or round?
Round is the safer choice for a face, a circular logo, or any design with a strong centre and soft edges — the curve flatters it. Round is also what people expect, which matters for merchandise being sold blind.
Square is the better choice when the artwork has corners that matter: a square or rectangular logo, a photograph you do not want cropped to a circle, a QR code, typographic designs, or anything laid out to a grid. It is also the better choice when you want the badge itself to be noticed, not just what is printed on it.
Practically, a 50mm square gives you a little more printable area than a 58mm round circle does, despite the smaller headline number.
Who orders them
Design studios, agencies and architecture firms, where a round badge feels off-brand. Independent artists and illustrators selling pin sets, because square reads as more considered. Product launches and brand campaigns with a square logo. Cafés and restaurants. Music and film merchandise, where a square echoes an album sleeve.
Designing for corners
The one thing to watch is the corners. A square badge has a small radius, and artwork is pulled tightly around all four — so a design with critical detail in the corners will lose it. Keep logos, text and faces well within the centre, and let only background reach the edges.
Send at 300 DPI or higher in JPG, PNG, PDF or AI, built as a square with a few millimetres of bleed on every side. Full-colour CMYK printing; neons and metallics cannot be matched, so send CMYK values if a brand colour has to be exact.
