What the third magnet buys

Not just more force — a wider footprint. A single round magnet gives the badge one pivot point, so on someone who is walking all day it slowly turns face-down. Three magnets spread across a bar give it two points of contact, and it stays level through a shift.

It also pulls through heavier cloth. A blazer lapel, a thick uniform or a structured jacket is more than a single round magnet can comfortably hold, and the badge sags forward.
