Which back to choose for children
This matters more in a school than anywhere else, and it is the question we get asked most.
Hook badges are the safest choice for younger children. There is no pin to open and nothing magnetic to swallow or lose. The hook grips a shirt pocket rim, a placket or a school-bag strap. It is also our cheapest 58mm badge at volume, which matters when you are ordering for an entire school.
Pin badges are fine for older students and for staff, and are the standard for house and prefect badges worn on a blazer.
Magnetic backs should be avoided for children, and for any staff member with a pacemaker or implanted cardiac device.
Sizes that work in a school
44mm is the size to wear all day: house badges, monitor badges, reading-club badges. It sits flat on a shirt and does not drag at the fabric.
58mm is the size for anything with a photograph or more than a couple of words — sports-day event badges, annual-day badges, anything being kept as a memento.
68×24mm rectangular name badges are the format for staff, because a name and a designation on two lines is exactly what the shape is for.
Ordering for a whole school
House badges are usually four designs — one per house — ordered together. That counts as one order at the combined quantity rate, not four separate ones, which is where most of the saving is.
For staff name badges, send a plain list with the exact spelling and designation for each person plus one layout showing where the crest sits, rather than one file per teacher. Have someone check the spellings before it goes to print.
Timing around the school calendar
Standard delivery is 5–7 business days from artwork approval, with 2–3 day express to select pin codes. Term-start and sports-day weeks are our busiest, so send artwork earlier than feels necessary if the date is fixed.
